Practitioner Training: Good Governance and Rule of Law in Fragile States
The Hague Institute for Global Justice and The Hague Academy for Local Governance will jointly organize a training curriculum on building Good Governance and Rule of Law in Fragile States. The curriculum seeks to contribute to the knowledge and skills of government, international organizations and NGO staff working in fragile and conflict affected states. During the training the local context and experiences of participants are the starting point for discussions with international experts and a variety of interactive exercises.
Program
This comprehensive six-week training consists of three two-week thematic programs. Participants may choose to enroll in the full six-week program or partake in any of the two-week thematic programs.
Restoring Legitimacy: 20 January – 31 January 2014
contains the following subjects:
Post-conflict reconstruction of Governance and Rule of Law
Accountability and Participation (inclusive policies, social cohesion, traditional leaders, gender, local governance, press)
Restoring Security: 3 February – 14 February 2014
Human Security (local security policies, coordination between security actors, community policing)
Access to Justice (human rights, access to justice, transitional justice)
Restoring Effectiveness: 17 February – 28 February 2014
Restoring Public Services (intergovernmental structures, PPP, financing mechanisms)
Social Economic Development (job creation, youth employment, natural resources, food security, social security and ‘decent’ work)
