Community-Based Service Provision in Fragile Contexts
This synthesis report is based on the research outcomes and publications of the Working Group Community Security and Community-based DDR in Fragile States (WCS) that was part of the Peace, Security and Development Network (PSDN) and was operational from 2009-2011. The WCS comprised nine members that are working on or interested in community security and DDR. The working group was co-chaired by Prof. Georg Frerks (Centre for Conflict Studies, Utrecht University) and Mr. Jan Gruiters (IKV Pax Christi). This report presents the main findings and recommendations from the studies done by the WCS. Security promotion programmes can take many forms as each context requires a unique approach. This project prioritized analyzing the security context before turning to the question what outside intervention would be most appropriate, effective, efficient and sustainable.
