Public lecture Democracies NonDemocracies and Democratization in Asia

Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Concluding the seminar “Indonesia’s Rise and Democracy Promotion in Asia”Hassan Wirajuda (Former Foreign Minister of the Republic of Indonesia and one of the chief architects of modern Indonesian foreign policy) will speak on the issue of democratization in Asia. Dr Wurajuda will address Indonesia’s internal transformation, as well as the country’s promotion and implementation of democracy, with reference to the Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) and the Institute for Peace and Democracy (IPD), as well as the wider issue of democratization in Asia.  

After the lecture there will be a discussion with the public  

Dr. Wirajuda is a leading figure in discussions about Indonesia as an emerging power in Asia. He was Foreign Minister from 2001 to 2009. Currently he is, inter alia, member of the Council of Presidential Advisors of the Republic of Indonesia. He initiated the establishment of the Bali Democracy Forum in 2008 and its implementing agency, the Institute for Peace and Democracy, in which he is sitting as Patron. He is also founding member of the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council (2011), and member of the Asia Pacific Leaders Network on Nuclear Disarmament and Non Proliferation.
