On 12 December Ken Setiawan will defend her thesis ‘Promoting Human Rights: National Human Rights Commissions in Indonesia and Malaysia’. The thesis explores how the National Human Rights Commissions (NHRCs) of Indonesia and Malaysia have performed their tasks, to what extent they have contributed to the realization of human rights, and which factors have influenced these processes. On this basis it provides new general insights on human rights promotion and NHRCs generally.
On 19 December, the Van Vollenhoven Institute will organize a short seminar to share such insights. Ken Setiawan will present the main findings of her dissertation, Jan-Peter Loof will sketch a comparative perspective looking at the new Dutch NHRC, and Thomas Lindblad and Herlambang Wiratraman will provide comments. Subsequently, the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a discussion with the speakers.
