Campaign Adviser (Consultant)

International Alert
United Kingdom

Location: London, UK
Duration: Until October/November 2018, 2 days a week
Closing date: 27 March 2018

Do you want to use your skills and experience to drive change to improve the lives of people affected by violent conflict? We are looking for an experienced and inspiring campaigner to shape International Alert’s engagement and campaign strategy and start developing a base of support for peacebuilding.

With violent conflict on the rise again after decades of relative decline, and 2 billion people living in countries affected by fragility and violence, the need to build peace is becoming more critical every day. We are looking for a skilled campaigner to help us think through how campaigning could help us achieve our influencing objectives, in the UK and globally.

We are currently at the beginning of our campaigning journey. We are looking at someone who can analyse our objectives and assess how we can deliver campaigns that make the case for peacebuilding and lead to reforms in policy and practice, either at a national or global level. We need a strategic thinker who is able to drill down into how we can influence policy-makers to focus on preventing the causes of violent conflict using a peacebuilding approach.

This role demands expert knowledge of campaigning methods and innovative digital campaigning tactics. You will have a successful track record of developing and delivering, high-profile and impactful mass engagement campaigns which change policies and influence the public discourse.

The ability to analyse complex policy issues in order to develop compelling campaign messages and inspire action is crucial. You’ll demonstrate a keen understanding of both UK and EU policy-making coupled with experience in influencing opinion-formers and decision-makers.

The role will involve:

  • Developing International Alert’s campaigning strategy and advising on whether and how public campaigning could help Alert achieve our policy objectives.
  • Advising International Alert on how best to do campaigning globally.
  • Planning, implementing and evaluating impactful pilot campaigns that motivate people to take action and place peacebuilding into the public discourse.
