The ongoing civil war in Syria has destroyed countless lives, families, and communities, and perpetrators have shown a disturbing disregard for international human rights and international humanitarian law. Attacks on schools are some oft-overlooked aspects of these violations, and the wanton destruction of schools has had an enormous impact on students, teachers, parents, and the fabric of Syrian society. In the face of such violence, the international community must come together and do its part to denounce the massive violations of human rights.

Join the International Center for Transitional Justice in Geneva, on 22 March, to demand justice for the attacks on schools and to help end the killing of children in Syria. From 9 am to 1 pm, at the Forum Genève, Syrian victims will share their experiences in a public hearing-style event examining the impact of the destruction of schools before a global audience that includes activists, policy makers, international organizations, and more.

The Panel of Conscience will be presided by:

  • Navanethem “Navi” Pillay, former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
  • Pablo De Greiff, UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-recurrence
  • David Tolbert, President of the International Center for Transitional Justice

Together we will listen to victims, and ensure that their voices, experiences, and priorities are an integral part of any steps toward achieving justice and accountability, as well as preventing the recurrence of conflict in Syria. Justice for Syria must go beyond trials, and we all need to get involved.
