Thematic carousel: Engaging with political parties in fragile and conflict-affected settings

Political actors of political parties are increasingly seen as important players in peaceful and sustainable development of fragile and conflict affected settings. Why is this focus on political parties necessary? How can donors and policymakers engage political parties in these settings to enhance peacebuilding and democracy support?

Following a public expert meeting to be held on Thursday 15 September, this closed-door thematic carrousel will bring together practitioners from a range of conflict affected settings and experts on four themes:

•  The conversion of former armed movements into political parties
•   Inclusive political settlements
•   Synchronizing the work of political party assistance and international peacebuilding and conflict resolution interventions
•   The impact of illicit networks on politics in fragile and conflict affected settings.

The aim of the carrousel is to develop concrete recommendations for more effective interventions. The thematic carrousel is by invitation only.
