Summer course Peacebuilding and Local Governance

  • How can development partners increase the effectiveness of their support to local governments in a post conflict context?
  • When does decentralisation process facilitate or hinder peacebuilding process and what is the role of local governments in both situations?

These are the central questions of this one week Peacebuilding and Local Governance course organised by The Hague Academy for Local Governance in partnership with the Barcelona International Peace Resource Center. The course will further analyses lessons learned from international cases e.g. Afghanistan, Liberia, South Sudan and the Balkans. It will apply theories and concepts to the local context of the participants, and discuss the impact of donor interventions on peace and stability. The course will also provide participants with an opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss new ideas and approaches for peacebuilding.

This training is designed for staff of bilateral donors, multilateral agencies and NGOs, and civil servants working for ministries or local governments who wish to be well informed about the local dimensions of peacebuilding in post conflict states.
