Rising Powers and Peacebuilding: Innovative Approaches to Preventing Conflict and Sustaining Peace

Organized by:Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI)

Drawing from new approaches to peacebuilding in Somalia, Myanmar, and Afghanistan, this workshop aims to address some key questions around how these approaches to peacebuilding might provide new ideas or insights of relevance for policy and programming.

During this workshop, recent research findings by researchers from Turkey, South Africa, India and Brazil into how their countries understand and approach peacebuilding will form the starting point for the conversation.

The open roundtable discussion will provide a platform for active engagement with fellow expert practitioners in an interactive exploration on the role of rising powers in conflict prevention and peacebuilding. The first session will focus on understanding how rising powers see peacebuilding, using country studies and case studies to inform the discussion. The second session will examine what the approach of rising powers means for peacebuilding for the EU, UN and other peacebuilding actors.

The full program for the day and case and country studies are available here.

This event is organized by the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), in close cooperation with the Knowledge Platform Security & Rule of Law. More information on the project and its research publications are available here.
