Bottom-up perspectives on violence and conflict: lessons from Colombia, Kenya, South Sudan and Zimbabwe

We will be sharing and discussing learning derived from an action research process carried out in four countries to better understand citizens perspectives in contexts of fragility and chronic violence.

Keynote speaker

Professor Oliver Richmond (University of Manchester)

It will be a unique opportunity to gain insight from research which sought to address the following questions:

  • How are citizens dealing with violence?
  • How they confer legitimacy on, or withhold it from, the various forms of leadership and authority in their environment?
  • What are citizens' views and perspectives on the political settlements in their particular contexts?
  • How does this inform their agency in response to violence?
