The Platform and GPPAC will host an informal meeting on the occasion of the visit of Mr. Chukwuemeka Eze, Executive Director of WANEP and Mr. Kissima Gakou of the University of Law and Political Science of Bamako. The meeting aims to provide for an informal exchange regarding the situation and ongoing projects in Mali and the wider region, that way providing for a learning and networking opportunity.

To kick start the discussion, Mr Eze will briefly highlight the challenges Mali and the wider region currently face - in particular those of a transnational nature. Ahead of the launch of a human security strategy for Mali, which is the product of a collaboration between WANEP, GPPAC and the Human Security Collective, the regional components of the crisis, ECOWAS’ role, and how developments may be envisaged upon the eventual departure of MINUSMA will be discussed.

Gabriella Vogelaar (GPPAC) who works with Mr. Gakou on the Whole of Society Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding (WOSCAP) project, will briefly introduce this project, its aims and objectives, after which, Mr. Gakou will touch upon the current security sector reform in Mali as well as the respective approaches taken by the EU and UN missions, and the challenges they entail.

You are kindly invited to participate in this conversation and to exchange views and insights on the current situation in Mali and the wider region and to reflect, from your own experience on the current developments, its challenges for policy and programming.
