AfricaWorks! 'Creating New Partnerships'

General introduction AfricaWorks!

The African Studies Centre and the Netherlands-African Business Council together will organize Africa Works! on October 16 and 17, 2014. This year the event will focus on new partnerships in which African and Dutch/European organizations and individuals from business, academic, civil society, media, diplomatic and policy circles look for new engagements in a world that has fundamentally changed during the last decade and in which ‘Africa is rising’. The conference will bring together these different stakeholders, both from Africa, from the Netherlands and from elsewhere. The conference will take place in Leiden and 500+ visitors are expected to attend.


Outline workshop

Effective partnerships for business and development in complex environments 

a) Introduction (5-10 min) by:                       Abubakarr Bangura (Sierra Leone Central Union, SLCU)

Central question:

How can cross-sector partnerships help to render business and development outcomes more effective in complex environments?


Sub question(s):

What is the incentive/motivation/expectation to engage in a partnership?

What are complicating/ supporting factors of engagement in a partnership?

What are the business/ development outcomes of a partnership and to what
      extent are these complementary/ conflicting?
